Works well with

  • Octopus and OVO smart EV tariffs
  • Home solar PV with Ohme Solar Boost
  • Installer-selected 40A Type B MCB protection
  • Type A 30mA upstream RCD arrangements
  • CT clamp load balancing on single-phase supplies

The Ohme Home Pro OHME0002GB0028M is a 7.4kW single-phase tethered EV charger supplied with an 8m Type 2 cable. It is the longer-reach Home Pro option for domestic installs where a 5m cable may be tight, such as deeper driveways, offset parking spaces or vehicles with charging ports at the far end from the mounting position. The charger uses a fixed Type 2 plug, a colour LCD screen, three charger buttons and the Ohme smartphone app for day-to-day control. It supports energy tariff integration, Solar Boost, home power balancing and over-the-air software updates. The black enclosure is IP55 rated and suitable for indoor or outdoor wall or post mounting. For buyers choosing between tethered and untethered charging, compare this longer lead model with other home EV chargers before specifying the cable route.

  • 7.4kW maximum output on a 230V AC single-phase supply
  • 32A maximum rated current
  • Tethered Mode 3 charger with fixed Type 2 plug
  • 8m output cable for wider driveway reach
  • Colour LCD screen, wall-unit buttons and Ohme app control
  • 3G/4G multi-network SIM, with SIM cost covered by Ohme for the first three years
  • Built-in PEN fault detection and integral 6mA DC protection
  • IP55 and IK08 rated black enclosure
  • 170mm high x 200mm wide x 100mm deep, 4kg unit weight
  • UKCA marked and UK Smart Charging Regulations 2021 compliant

Where does the 8m cable help?

The 8m Home Pro is the safer choice where the parking position varies or the charge port is not always closest to the wall. It gives extra reach across a longer driveway, around a parked vehicle or from a side-mounted charger to a front or rear vehicle inlet. That can prevent a tidy electrical installation from becoming inconvenient once the customer changes car, reverses into the space or adds a second plug-in vehicle.

A longer tethered lead should still be specified with cable handling in mind. The charger includes a holster, and the cable needs a sensible resting position so it does not become a trip hazard or sit where vehicles can run over it. The benefit of this variant is reach without changing the Home Pro platform. Output, smart functions, enclosure rating, app control and protection remain aligned with the shorter model, so the buying decision is mainly about the physical layout of the parking bay.

Smart charging for tariffs and solar

The Home Pro integrates with energy tariffs and can schedule charging around the cheapest available times. Ohme lists compatibility with all energy providers, including Octopus and OVO smart EV tariffs. This makes the charger relevant for homeowners moving onto time-of-use tariffs, where a well-set charging schedule can shift most energy use into off-peak periods. The driver can also view charging use through the app, helping them understand how much energy each charging session has taken.

Solar Boost lets the charger use surplus home solar energy for EV charging through the Ohme app. That is valuable on homes where PV generation is already installed and the customer wants the vehicle to absorb generation that may otherwise be exported. The charger can also supplement solar energy with grid power to help meet a target, which avoids making solar operation too rigid for daily travel needs.

The 3G/4G multi-network SIM gives the charger its data connection for smart functions, with the SIM cost covered by Ohme for the first three years. Smart scheduling relies on a working mobile phone connection, so installers should consider the mounting location and the likely signal level before finalising the position. Where signal is unreliable, the customer should understand that smart scheduling may not be dependable at that location.

Installer protection and load balancing

For OHME0002GB0028M, the Home Pro platform uses RCD Type A 30mA protection with integral 6mA DC leakage protection and built-in protective earth neutral fault detection. Overcurrent protection is not fitted in the charger, so it must be selected and installed separately. The manufacturer installation guide recommends a 40A Type B MCB and states that any upstream RCD must be at least Type A 30mA.

A CT clamp is included for load balancing. The clamp measures the property demand and allows the charger to limit maximum current to the vehicle when household load approaches the set threshold or fuse value. The installation guide states that the CT clamp can be fitted in either orientation between the electricity meter and main fuse box, ideally close to the meter. If load balancing has been activated and the CT clamp is removed or faulty, the charger reverts to 16A, so the installation should still be assessed for available capacity.

The unit has L+N+E 6mm² supply connections and cable entry through the rear or underside. The data sheet lists a 25mm gland and blanking grommet as provided, while the installation guide describes a fixed one metre input lead that needs termination to a suitable junction box, isolation switch or mini consumer unit that is not supplied. For longer cable-route jobs, check the installation accessories and supply design alongside EV cabling rather than treating the charger as the only specification item.

Screen control for driveway handover

The colour LCD screen gives the Home Pro a practical advantage during handover and everyday use. The driver can see charging status at the wall unit, while the app gives deeper control over schedules, tariffs and charging history. The three charger buttons mean a user can operate the charger locally without relying solely on a phone, which is helpful when another household member uses the vehicle or when the phone is not to hand.

The 8m version is still physically compact at 170mm high, 200mm wide and 100mm deep, with a 4kg unit weight. Its black enclosure suits visible outdoor positions where the charger is mounted against brick, timber or a darker external wall. The IP55 and IK08 ratings support outside installation, while the 8m lead is the visual and practical difference installers need to allow for in the final cable stowage position.

Choosing between 5m, 8m and ePod

This model is the longer tethered Home Pro. Choose the 5m Ohme Home Pro where the charge point can sit close to the regular vehicle position and the user wants less cable to coil. Choose the 8m version where the parking space, vehicle inlet or wall position needs more reach. Both have the same 7.4kW single-phase output, colour screen, app control, tariff integration, Solar Boost and built-in PEN fault detection.

The Ohme ePod is the alternative for customers who want a socket rather than a fixed lead. It keeps the same core 7.4kW smart charging approach but removes the attached cable and screen. That can suit neat front-of-house installs or households that want to choose a 5m or 8m cable separately. For side-by-side detail, the LAMPS Ohme ePod vs Home Pro guide is a useful next page.

8m Home Pro questions buyers ask

Is the OHME0002GB0028M electrically different?

The 8m model uses the same 7.4kW single-phase Home Pro platform as the 5m version. The buying difference is the longer output lead, which helps where the wall position and vehicle inlet are further apart.

Does the 8m Home Pro include a CT clamp?

Yes. The installation guide lists one CT clamp in the Home Pro box, along with Wago clips, connector block, cable holster and installation fixings. The CT clamp enables the charger’s dynamic load balancing feature when installed and configured.

Can the Home Pro 8m use smart EV tariffs?

Yes. Ohme states that the Home Pro integrates with all energy providers, including Octopus and OVO smart EV tariffs. The app can schedule charging around lower-cost periods and track charging energy use.
