  • EV circuit protection for 7.4kW charger supplies
  • Root mount or surface mount EV protection barriers

The Rolec BasicCharge Contactless Payment 7.4kW EV Charging Pedestal with LCD Screen is a black standalone charger with one Type 2 socket, display support and payment hardware. ROLEC3511B is the single-phase, single-socket version that combines the LCD screen and contactless payment terminal within the BasicCharge range. It delivers up to 7.4kW at 32A from a 230V AC supply and is intended for public-facing car parks, destinations, workplaces and managed residential parking where drivers need clear on-pedestal guidance and a direct payment route. The pedestal format places the chargepoint at the bay, while the socketed Type 2 connection lets drivers use a suitable cable. OCPP 1.6J support connects the charger to compatible management platforms, and integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering supports reporting and billing. LED amenity lighting improves site visibility. Why combine LCD and payment

The combined LCD and payment specification is valuable where the driver may be unfamiliar with the site, the charger or the access process. The display provides on-pedestal guidance and status information, while the contactless payment terminal gives a direct payment route for occasional users. That combination is better suited to public-facing and destination charging than an RFID-only or app-only configuration.

The LCD and payment hardware should be chosen because the site needs both user interface features, not simply because the project is commercial. Staff-only and resident-only locations may be better served by the smart or LCD-only versions. Visitor parking, retail destinations and public access sites often benefit from both features because they reduce dependence on pre-issued access media. The final user process still depends on the compatible management platform, payment setup and tariff model selected by the operator.

Single-socket pedestal for one paid bay

The single Type 2 socket serves one marked EV bay from one pedestal. This keeps bay design clear and avoids the demand planning of a dual-socket unit. A socketed format means the driver connects a suitable Type 2 cable, while the cable lock supports the session once connected. It is a practical arrangement for public-facing parking where users bring their own charging cable.

For installations with two adjacent EV bays, ROLEC3521B is the dual 7.4kW version of the same LCD and payment concept. ROLEC3513B provides the combined interface on a single 22kW three-phase socket, while ROLEC3523B gives two 22kW three-phase sockets. The correct version depends on bay count, supply type and expected vehicle AC charging performance. On a single-phase site with one bay, this 7.4kW version is the relevant match.

OCPP reporting and access control

BasicCharge supports plug and go, app, RFID and contactless payment operation where fitted. This allows the operator to support more than one user group from the same pedestal. Known users can be managed through RFID or app access, while visitors can use the payment route where the back-office and payment service are configured for that use.

OCPP 1.6J communications allow connection to a compatible chargepoint management system. Integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering supports accurate energy reporting for billing, internal allocation and estate records. Communications include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, RJ45 Ethernet, NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy for installer configuration. The payment terminal and LCD screen add user-facing functions, but the management platform remains central to pricing, user access and reporting.

Protection, lighting and exposed parking sites

Built-in protection includes a 40A 30mA Type A RCBO per socket, 6mA DC fault protection, lightning surge protection, over temperature protection and PME fault detection. PME fault detection removes the need for an earth electrode for that function. Static load management and dynamic load balancing are supported, with additional hardware potentially required depending on the final installation. Supporting electrical items can be reviewed under EV circuit protection.

The pedestal includes photocell controlled 360-degree LED amenity lighting, which helps identify the chargepoint in darker car park conditions. The enclosure is built from 2mm Zintec steel with zinc primer and textured polyester powder coating. The socket is rated IP54, impact protection is IK10, and the specified operating temperature range is -30°C to +50°C. Surface or root mounting can be selected around groundwork and bay layout. Physical protection should be considered where the pedestal is vulnerable to vehicle movement.

Choosing BasicCharge LCD payment variants

ROLEC3511B is the 1 x 7.4kW single-phase BasicCharge pedestal with LCD screen and contactless payment terminal. ROLEC3521B is the dual 7.4kW version. ROLEC3513B is the single-socket 22kW three-phase model, and ROLEC3523B is the dual-socket 22kW three-phase model. These variants share the combined user interface approach, while output and socket count change to match the site design.

The simpler BasicCharge options reduce user interface hardware. ROLEC0511B is the standard smart single-socket pedestal, ROLEC1511B adds contactless payment only, and ROLEC2511B adds the LCD screen only. Choose this combined model where the project requires both payment at the pedestal and clearer driver information at the bay.

BasicCharge LCD payment questions

What does ROLEC3511B combine?

It combines the LCD screen and integrated contactless payment terminal on the 1 x 7.4kW BasicCharge pedestal. It also retains app, RFID and plug and go operating routes where supported by the selected platform.

Is this for one charging bay?

Yes. This SKU has one Type 2 socket and is specified for one charging bay. Dual-socket LCD payment variants are available where one pedestal needs to serve two bays.

Does the pedestal need an earth rod?

No. The BasicCharge specification includes PME fault detection with no earth electrode required for that function. The installer still needs to assess source protection, earthing and surge protection for the final circuit.
