Ideal for

  • Open car parks needing a standalone EV pedestal
  • Workplace bays without a suitable mounting wall
  • Managed residential sites with one Type 2 bay
  • Single-phase installations requiring up to 7.4kW output
  • Sites using app, RFID or plug and go access

Works well with

  • OCPP 1.6J chargepoint management platforms
  • RFID card or fob user access
  • Type 2 charging cables for socketed bays
  • EV circuit protection for single-phase charger supplies
  • Root mount or surface mount EV protection barriers

The Rolec BasicCharge Smart 7.4kW EV Charging Pedestal is a black standalone EV chargepoint with one Type 2 socket. ROLEC0511B is the single-phase, single-socket version in the BasicCharge range, delivering up to 7.4kW at 32A from a 230V AC supply. It is designed for car parks, workplaces, residential developments and destination sites where a wall-mounted charger is not the right layout. The pedestal body places the socket, cable lock and controls at the bay, while integrated LED amenity lighting helps users locate the chargepoint after dark. Operation can be kept simple with plug and go, or managed through app and RFID access via a compatible OCPP back office. MID-approved metering supports usage reporting, and PME fault detection removes the need for a separate earth electrode for that function. For related project hardware, browse the wider Rolec range.

Why specify a pedestal charger

A pedestal charger is the correct format where the charging bay is not next to a suitable wall, plant room or building elevation. It allows the charger to be positioned within a parking layout, which is useful for rows of bays, open car parks and residential developments with defined EV spaces. The BasicCharge pedestal is surface or root mountable, so the installation route can be selected around groundwork, ducting and site constraints.

The single-socket version is suited to one marked bay or one dedicated charging position. It avoids the additional supply demand and bay planning of a dual-socket pedestal, while still giving the site a commercial floor-mounted unit. The Type 2 socket keeps the bay cable policy flexible because the driver uses a suitable Type 2 lead. For sites where every driver is expected to bring a cable, the socketed pedestal avoids leaving a tethered lead exposed in an outdoor parking area.

Smart access without payment hardware

This smart BasicCharge version supports plug and go, app and RFID operation. Plug and go keeps operation simple where the site does not need user restriction. RFID is useful where access is limited to staff, residents or approved users. App operation gives a route into the selected management platform for session visibility and user control.

OCPP 1.6J communications allow the charger to connect to a compatible back-office system. That is valuable for operators who need usage records, user assignment or remote management across more than one chargepoint. This SKU is not the contactless payment version and it is not the LCD screen version. It should be selected where the site wants smart controlled charging, but payment hardware and display guidance at the pedestal are not required.

Protection and load management planning

Built-in protection includes a 40A 30mA Type A RCBO per socket, 6mA DC fault protection, lightning surge protection, over temperature protection and PME fault detection. PME fault detection means no separate earth electrode is required for that function. The final installation still needs suitable source protection, cable selection and earthing assessment based on the circuit route and site layout.

Dynamic load balancing and static load management are supported, with additional hardware potentially required depending on the installation. Load management is important on sites where several chargers may be added later or where incoming capacity is limited. Integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering supports accurate energy usage reporting for operators, tenants and facilities teams. For supporting protective equipment, see EV circuit protection.

LED amenity lighting and site layout

The integrated LED amenity lighting head is a distinctive BasicCharge feature. It provides 360-degree illumination around the pedestal and is controlled by photocell, helping drivers identify the chargepoint position in low light. This is useful in car parks where lighting levels vary or where the EV bay must be visible from a distance.

The pedestal measures 205mm wide, 1130mm high and 205mm deep. The body is made from 2mm Zintec steel with zinc primer and textured polyester powder coating. The socket is rated IP54, the design is IK10 impact rated and operating temperature is specified from -30°C to +50°C. Vehicle movement around the pedestal should be assessed carefully, and exposed bay locations may need physical protection such as a surface mount EV chargepoint protector.

Choosing BasicCharge variants

ROLEC0511B is the 1 x 7.4kW single-phase smart BasicCharge pedestal. ROLEC0521B adds a second 7.4kW socket for two bays from one pedestal. ROLEC0513B moves the single-socket format to a 22kW three-phase supply, while ROLEC0523B gives two 22kW three-phase sockets. The right variant depends on bay count, available supply and expected vehicle AC charging capability.

Other BasicCharge variants add user interface hardware. ROLEC1511B adds contactless payment to the 1 x 7.4kW arrangement. ROLEC2511B adds an LCD screen without the contactless payment terminal. ROLEC3511B combines the LCD screen and contactless payment terminal. Choose the standard smart pedestal where app, RFID or plug and go access is enough for the site.

BasicCharge smart pedestal questions

What is the mounting format for ROLEC0511B?

It is a standalone BasicCharge pedestal, not a wall-mounted charger. The range is listed as surface or root mountable, allowing the installation method to be selected around the bay design and groundworks.

Does it include contactless payment?

No. This SKU is the standard smart pedestal with plug and go, app and RFID operation. Contactless payment versions are available under separate BasicCharge SKUs.

Is it a single-phase charger?

Yes. This variant is the 1 x up to 7.4kW Type 2 socket version for a 230V AC single-phase supply. Three-phase 22kW BasicCharge versions are separate variants.
