Ideal for

  • Single-phase homes requiring up to 7.4kW AC charging
  • Domestic driveways where a removable Type 2 cable is preferred
  • Small workplaces needing app, RFID or plug and go access
  • Solar PV homes using EVO ECO and ECO+ charging modes
  • Installations requiring Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet connectivity

Works well with

  • EVPP0100 5m 32A Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable
  • EVPP0107 10m 32A Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable
  • EVRS0030 Type 2 plug and cable wall or post mount holster
  • EVIN0015 40A single-phase EV consumer unit with Type A RCBO
  • ACSR5011 EVO single-phase solar CT clamp kit

The Rolec EVO ROLEC5011 is a 7.4kW single-phase AC EV charger with a universal Type 2 socket, 230V AC 50/60Hz supply requirement and IP54 rated Daytona Grey enclosure. This variant suits homes, small workplaces and light commercial sites that need a untethered 32A charger rather than a fixed tethered lead. It differs from the 22kW ROLEC5013 by using a single-phase supply and omitting built-in 4G, while still providing Wi-Fi, Ethernet, RFID, app control, OCPP 1.6J and solar charging modes.

  • Maximum output: 7.4kW at 32A, adjustable from 6A where the supply is limited
  • Nominal voltage: 230V AC ±10%, single phase, 50/60Hz
  • Connection format: universal Type 2 charging socket with cable lock
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6 2.4GHz, RJ45 Ethernet, RFID, BLE 5.0 for installer configuration and OCPP 1.6J
  • Protection: AC 30mA Type A residual current protection, DC 6mA detection, PME fault detection, surge and over-temperature protection
  • Dimensions: 260mm x 260mm x 112mm, less than 3kg, Daytona Grey PC/ABS alloy housing
  • Compliance: UK Smart Charge Point Regulations, EN IEC 61851-1:2019, EN IEC 61851-21-2:2021 and UKCA

How does the EVO 7.4kW manage charging?

ROLEC5011 gives the driver three practical ways to start a charge: plug and go, the ROLEC EVO mobile app or RFID card. Two EVO RFID charging cards are supplied, which is useful where the charger is shared between household members, staff or authorised users at a small site.

The app supports scheduled charging, charging state, usage analytics, multi-user access, fault notifications and security alerts. EVO also provides Charge Now, ECO and ECO+ modes. ECO combines solar generation by day with scheduled grid power at night, while ECO+ is intended for surplus solar charging only.

For light commercial operation, OCPP 1.6J gives the unit a route into compatible chargepoint management systems. Do not present this as a fixed tariff integration claim unless the tariff or software provider is verified separately at the time of publication.

Why choose the untethered Rolec EVO format?

The untethered Type 2 socket keeps the wall unit compact when not in use and allows the buyer to select a separate charging cable length for the vehicle and driveway layout. This is useful where more than one vehicle may use the charger, or where the customer wants to replace the cable without replacing the chargepoint.

The trade-off is that the charging cable needs to be stored and connected at both ends for each session. A wall or post mount holster can help keep the cable clear of the ground, especially where the charger is mounted in a shared bay or in a regular domestic parking position.

The EVO enclosure is IP54 rated for ingress protection and IK10 rated for impact protection. Wall mounting is standard, with post mounting options available where there is no suitable wall or where the charger is being installed away from the building line. For more single-phase options, see our home EV chargers.

What should the installer check first?

The charger output is configurable from 6A to 32A, so the installer can set the unit around the available supply and load-management design. The single-phase model is supplied with a CT clamp and cable for dynamic load balancing, which allows the charger output to reduce when household or site demand approaches the configured limit.

Rolec specifies a suitably rated MCB or 30mA Type A RCBO at source, depending on the cable type and route. Surge protection may also be required depending on the installation. Final circuit design, cable sizing, isolation, earthing and protective device selection must be confirmed by a qualified installer.

Built-in PME fault detection is intended to remove the need for a separate earth electrode where the installation conditions permit. The single-phase cable terminals are listed as 3 x 50mm for 1P, N and E, giving the installer the key connection format to check before ordering accessories or designing the supply circuit.

Does ROLEC5011 include a CT clamp for load balancing?

Yes. The Rolec EVO datasheet states that dynamic load balancing is supported and notes that the CT clamp and cable are included with single-phase models. The installer still needs to position the CT correctly and configure the charger output to suit the property supply.

Does the 7.4kW EVO have 4G connectivity?

No. Rolec lists 4G LTE Cat-1 for the three-phase model only. ROLEC5011 should be described with Wi-Fi, RJ45 Ethernet, RFID, BLE for installer configuration and OCPP 1.6J, not 4G or a SIM subscription.

Does ROLEC5011 need an earth rod?

Rolec lists PME fault detection and states that no earth electrode or earth rod is required. The installer must still confirm the earthing arrangement and installation conditions before relying on the built-in PME fault detection.

What upstream protection is required?

The Rolec datasheet states that a suitably rated MCB or 30mA Type A RCBO is to be installed at source, dependent on the cable type and route. Surge protection may be required depending on the installation, so the protective device selection should not be fixed in the product copy unless the circuit design is known.
