The Rolec Hex Smart EV Charging Pedestal is a black two-outlet pedestal for charging two vehicles from one central unit. ROLEC0621B is the 2 x up to 7.4kW Type 2 socket version, designed for single-phase car park charging where two adjacent bays need a shared floor-mounted charger. The Hex range is engineered for demanding public, workplace, commercial and development locations, with two-socket and four-socket variants available across 7.4kW and 22kW outputs. This model supports plug and go, app or RFID controlled charging through a compatible OCPP chargepoint management system. It does not include the contactless payment terminal or the 5-inch LCD screen, making it the straightforward smart Hex option for controlled access sites. Built-in PME fault detection, MID-approved metering, dynamic load balancing and static load management support managed installation. The enclosure measures 406mm by 1153mm by 348mm and uses heavy-duty steel construction. See commercial EV chargers for wider site planning.

  • IP54 and IK10 rated, surface or root mountable

Why Hex suits two adjacent bays

The Hex pedestal is designed around multi-bay charging. This two-socket version lets one centrally positioned unit serve a pair of adjacent spaces, reducing the number of separate chargepoint bodies needed in the parking layout. That can simplify the visual arrangement and concentrate service access in one location. It also gives the operator a route to multi-outlet charging without moving straight to the four-socket version.

Two sockets make the most sense where bay markings, cable routes and parking behaviour can be controlled. The driver supplies a suitable Type 2 cable, so each bay needs enough space for a cable route from the pedestal to the vehicle inlet. Where the site has a larger central island or needs to serve four surrounding bays, the four-socket Hex variants should be considered. Where there is only one bay, a Quantum or BasicCharge single-socket pedestal may be a cleaner specification.

Smart access for controlled sites

This smart Hex model supports plug and go, app and RFID operation. That suits workplaces, commercial car parks and developments where users are known or access is managed by the operator. RFID can restrict use to authorised drivers, while app operation gives a digital route into the selected management platform. Plug and go can be used where the site wants low-friction charging without a payment terminal at the charger.

OCPP 1.6 compliance allows the pedestal to connect with a compatible chargepoint management system. Rolec describes the Hex as suitable for plug-and-go or pay-to-charge operation, but this specific SKU does not include contactless payment hardware. If walk-up payment is required, the Hex contactless models should be compared. If on-pedestal instructions and live information are required, the LCD variants provide a clearer user interface. For controlled two-bay charging, ROLEC0621B keeps the hardware focused on socket count and smart management.

Protection, metering and load planning

ROLEC0621B includes PME fault detection, so no earth rod is required for that protection function. The protection set also covers AC overload and fault current protection, 6mA DC fault protection, lightning surge protection and over temperature protection. Dynamic load balancing and static load management are supported, which matters when two 7.4kW sockets share site capacity.

MID-approved energy metering supports accurate consumption reporting for both operator records and cost allocation. A two-outlet pedestal can increase demand quickly when both bays are in use, so load management should be part of the electrical design rather than an afterthought. OCPP management can help the operator monitor use across both sockets, while the final protective device selection and cable route must be assessed by the installer. Supporting equipment can be reviewed under EV circuit protection.

Heavy-duty build for exposed parking

The Hex body is made from heavy-duty 1.5mm steel with 45 to 55 microns of zinc primer and a corrosion-resistant textured polyester powder coat finish. The fascia is tempered glass. The enclosure is rated IP54 and IK10, and the range is surface or root mountable. These details make the unit suitable for exposed public, commercial and workplace car parks where the charger is more visible and more vulnerable than a wall-mounted domestic unit.

Photocell-controlled LED amenity down lighting gives subtle illumination around the pedestal. The unit measures 406mm wide, 1153mm high and 348mm deep, so bay layout drawings need to account for its footprint and cable access. Since the pedestal sits in a vehicle environment, impact risk should be assessed early. A root mount EV chargepoint protection barrier or surface-mounted barrier can be used where the charger is exposed to reversing or turning vehicles.

Choosing between Hex variants

ROLEC0621B is the 2 x 7.4kW smart Hex pedestal in black. ROLEC0641B adds two further Type 2 sockets, giving four 7.4kW sockets from one pedestal. ROLEC0623B provides two 22kW three-phase sockets, while ROLEC0643B provides four 22kW three-phase sockets. The main decision is whether the site needs two or four outlets, and whether the available supply is single-phase or three-phase.

Other Hex variants add user interface hardware. The contactless payment version should be selected where drivers need to pay at the pedestal. The LCD screen version should be selected where local instructions, charging status and live readings are important. The combined LCD and contactless model covers public-facing sites that need both. Choose this smart version where app, RFID or plug and go operation is enough for the two-bay charging model.

Hex smart pedestal questions

How many bays does ROLEC0621B serve?

ROLEC0621B has two universal Type 2 charging sockets. It is specified for two socketed charging positions, subject to the final bay layout and cable route.

Does this Hex model include payment hardware?

No. This is the smart Hex pedestal without the integrated contactless payment terminal or LCD screen. Payment and LCD variants are available under separate Hex SKUs.

Can the Hex charge four vehicles?

The Hex range includes four-socket models that can charge up to four vehicles from one pedestal. ROLEC0621B is the two-socket 7.4kW variant, so it is specified for two outlets rather than four.
