The Rolec Quantum Contactless EV Charging Pedestal with LCD Screen is a black standalone charger with one Type 2 socket, payment terminal and display. ROLEC3411B is the single-phase, single-socket Quantum variant that combines a 5-inch LCD screen with integrated contactless payment hardware. It delivers up to 7.4kW from a 230V AC supply and is suited to public-facing car parks, destination charging, workplaces and managed residential sites where drivers need local instructions and a payment route at the pedestal. The screen provides step-by-step charging information, real-time status, live MID meter readings and support contact information. Contactless payment, app, RFID and plug and go operation can be configured through compatible management arrangements. The pedestal also includes PME fault detection, MID-approved metering, load management support and LED amenity lighting. For related site equipment, browse commercial EV chargers.

Why combine payment and display

Payment and display hardware should be combined when the charger will be used by drivers who may not already know the site process. The contactless terminal gives a direct payment route, while the LCD screen gives local instructions and live charging information. That combination is useful in public-facing parking, visitor bays, leisure destinations and shared developments where the operator cannot assume every driver has been briefed in advance.

The screen can show step-by-step charging instructions, real-time charging status, live MID meter readings and support contact information. The payment terminal supports contactless authorisation where configured through the selected chargepoint management and payment setup. Known users can still be supported through app or RFID operation, allowing one pedestal to serve both occasional and approved users. This interface package is the main reason to choose this variant over the standard smart Quantum pedestal.

One socket for a paid single-phase bay

The single Type 2 socket serves one EV bay. It keeps the bay layout easy to understand and reduces the electrical demand compared with dual-socket models. The socketed format means the driver supplies a suitable Type 2 cable, which is normal for many public AC charging sites. The cable lock feature supports secure socketed charging during a session.

For one paid single-phase bay, the 7.4kW version is the correct electrical match. If the project needs two paid bays from one pedestal, ROLEC3421B provides two 7.4kW sockets. If the supply is three-phase and the site needs higher AC output, ROLEC3413B and ROLEC3423B move the combined LCD and payment interface to 22kW variants. The supply design should drive the output decision, while the user profile should drive the choice of payment and display hardware.

Managed charging and billing data

ROLEC3411B is OCPP 1.6 compliant and can connect with compatible chargepoint management systems. That is essential where the operator needs user management, session records, payment configuration and remote monitoring. The communications set includes 4G, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, giving designers options for different car park data conditions.

MID-approved metering provides the consumption basis for billing and reporting. The LCD screen can show live MID readings at the bay, while the management system holds the broader session and payment record. For operators, the value is not just user payment. It is the combination of metering, access control and reporting across a managed EV charging estate. For clear bay identification, a suitable EV parking sign can support the finished installation.

Protection, construction and siting

The Quantum platform includes PME fault detection, so no earth rod is required for that function. Built-in protection also includes AC overload and fault current protection, 6mA DC fault protection, lightning surge protection and over temperature protection. Dynamic load balancing and static load management are supported, helping installers plan constrained or expandable supplies.

The pedestal measures 375mm wide, 1440mm high and 275mm deep. It uses a 2.5mm 6063 extruded aluminium substructure with a hard anodised protective finish, aluminium composite panels and polycarbonate components for the lens, base, lid, collar and louvres. The fascia is tempered glass where fitted. The unit is rated IP54 and IK10. Open car park positions should be reviewed for impact risk, with protection selected where vehicles may manoeuvre close to the pedestal.

Choosing Quantum LCD payment variants

ROLEC3411B is the 1 x 7.4kW black Quantum pedestal with both LCD screen and contactless payment terminal. ROLEC3421B is the dual-socket 7.4kW version. ROLEC3413B provides one 22kW three-phase socket, while ROLEC3423B provides two 22kW three-phase sockets. These variants share the higher user interface specification but differ by supply and socket count.

The simpler single-socket models remove one or both interface features. ROLEC0411B is the smart version without LCD or payment terminal. ROLEC1411B adds contactless payment only. ROLEC2411B adds the LCD screen only. Choose this combined version where the site needs both local driver guidance and contactless payment at the chargepoint.

Quantum LCD payment questions

What does ROLEC3411B combine?

It combines a 5-inch LCD screen and an integrated contactless payment terminal on the 1 x 7.4kW Quantum pedestal. The same pedestal platform also supports app, RFID and plug and go operation where configured.

Is this for one charging bay?

Yes. This SKU has one Type 2 socket and is specified for one charging bay. Dual-socket Quantum LCD payment variants are available for two-bay layouts.

Does the pedestal need an earth rod?

No. The Quantum range includes PME fault detection with no earth rod required for that function. Source protection, earthing and surge protection still need to be assessed for the final installation.
