Ideal for

  • Visitor parking needing contactless EV payment
  • Commercial sites with one standalone Type 2 bay
  • Retail or destination charging on single-phase supply
  • Managed parking where payment reporting is required
  • Open car parks needing LED amenity lighting

Works well with

  • OCPP 1.6J chargepoint management platforms
  • Contactless card payment operating models
  • Type 2 charging cables for socketed bays
  • EV circuit protection for 7.4kW charger supplies
  • Root mount or surface mount EV protection barriers

The Rolec BasicCharge Contactless Payment 7.4kW EV Charging Pedestal is a black standalone charger with one Type 2 socket and payment hardware. ROLEC1511B provides up to 7.4kW at 32A from a 230V AC single-phase supply, with an integrated contactless card payment terminal for public-facing or visitor charging. It suits car parks, workplaces, retail destinations and managed residential sites where the operator wants a payment option at the chargepoint. The pedestal format positions the charger at the bay, rather than relying on a nearby wall or separate mounting post. Drivers connect through a suitable Type 2 cable, and the cable lock supports secure socketed charging during a session. Communications include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi and Ethernet, with OCPP 1.6J support for compatible back-office management. The range also includes standard smart, LCD and combined LCD payment variants. Compare wider commercial EV chargers for multi-bay schemes.

  • One universal Type 2 charging socket
  • Up to 7.4kW charging output at 32A
  • Single-phase 230V AC input supply
  • Black pedestal finish
  • Integrated contactless card payment terminal
  • Plug and go, app, RFID and contactless payment operation
  • OCPP 1.6J communications protocol
  • Integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering
  • PME fault detection with no earth electrode required
  • Photocell controlled 360-degree LED amenity lighting
  • 205mm x 1130mm x 205mm pedestal dimensions
  • IP54 socket rating and IK10 impact protection

Where payment changes the pedestal

Contactless payment changes the BasicCharge from a controlled-access pedestal into a better fit for visitor and public-facing use. A site can still use app, RFID or plug and go operation, but the payment terminal provides a route for drivers who are not pre-authorised users. That is valuable in destination car parks, retail parking, hospitality locations and commercial sites where charging may be offered beyond a closed user group.

The payment terminal should be specified alongside the back-office and tariff model. Hardware alone does not define the commercial charging process. Operators need to consider driver support, connectivity, pricing and signage at the bay. This variant does not include the LCD screen, so it is most appropriate where contactless payment is the key upgrade and on-screen instructions are not essential. Where display guidance is required as well, the combined LCD payment BasicCharge should be compared.

Single-socket layout for one bay

The single Type 2 socket suits one charging bay from one pedestal. This keeps electrical demand and bay allocation simpler than a dual-socket unit, while still giving the operator a payment-ready floor-mounted charger. The driver supplies a suitable Type 2 cable, which avoids storing a tethered lead on the pedestal between sessions.

Single-socket pedestals are often easier to place at the head of a marked bay, because the unit serves one vehicle position without cable crossing between bays. The site layout should still allow for the cable route from the pedestal to the vehicle inlet. Where two bays need to be served from one pedestal, ROLEC1521B is the 2 x 7.4kW payment variant. Where a three-phase supply and suitable vehicles justify higher AC output, ROLEC1513B and ROLEC1523B provide 22kW payment options.

Protection and managed reporting

Built-in protection includes a 40A 30mA Type A RCBO per socket, 6mA DC fault protection, surge protection, over temperature protection and PME fault detection. PME fault detection removes the need for a separate earth electrode for that function. Source protection and surge protection still need to be assessed as part of the final design, especially on exposed car parks with long supply routes.

Integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering supports accurate usage reporting for payment and cost allocation. OCPP 1.6J communications allow the charger to connect with a compatible chargepoint management system. Communications include 4G LTE with nano SIM support, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, RJ45 Ethernet, NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy for installer configuration. For commercial supply planning, include EV circuit protection in the installation schedule.

Pedestal body and mounting choices

The BasicCharge pedestal measures 205mm wide, 1130mm high and 205mm deep. It uses 2mm Zintec steel with zinc primer and textured polyester powder coating, giving a defined black floor-mounted enclosure for car park layouts. The socket is rated IP54, impact protection is IK10, and operating temperature is specified from -30°C to +50°C. Dual tamper and breach notifications support use in unattended locations.

The pedestal can be surface or root mounted, so groundwork and fixing method can be matched to the project. Integrated 360-degree LED amenity lighting is photocell controlled, helping users identify the unit in darker car park conditions. Where the pedestal is close to moving vehicles, physical protection should be assessed early. The approved range includes root mount EV chargepoint protection and surface-mount protection options for vulnerable locations.

Choosing BasicCharge payment variants

ROLEC1511B is the 1 x 7.4kW single-phase BasicCharge pedestal with contactless payment. ROLEC1521B keeps the same 7.4kW per-socket output but adds a second Type 2 socket. ROLEC1513B moves the single-socket payment format to a 22kW three-phase supply, and ROLEC1523B provides two 22kW three-phase sockets. The correct choice depends on bay count, supply type and vehicle AC charging requirements.

The non-payment smart pedestal is ROLEC0511B in the single-socket 7.4kW format. ROLEC2511B adds an LCD screen but no payment terminal. ROLEC3511B combines the LCD screen with contactless payment. Choose this model where contactless payment is needed, but the project does not require on-pedestal display guidance.

BasicCharge payment questions

What does ROLEC1511B add over the smart pedestal?

It adds an integrated contactless card payment terminal to the 1 x 7.4kW BasicCharge pedestal. The standard smart version uses plug and go, app or RFID operation without the payment terminal.

Does it include an LCD screen?

No. This variant is the contactless payment pedestal without the LCD screen. The LCD-only and combined LCD payment versions are separate BasicCharge variants.

Is it suitable for two bays?

This SKU has one Type 2 socket and is intended for one charging bay. The related ROLEC1521B variant provides two 7.4kW sockets where two bays need to be served from one pedestal.
