Ideal for

  • Managed car parks needing on-unit driver guidance
  • Workplace EV bays using app or RFID access
  • Residential developments with one Type 2 socket
  • Single-phase sites requiring a standalone pedestal
  • Locations where payment hardware is not required

Works well with

  • OCPP 1.6J chargepoint management platforms
  • RFID card or fob access control
  • Type 2 charging cables for socketed bays
  • EV circuit protection for single-phase charger supplies
  • Root mount or surface mount EV protection barriers

The Rolec BasicCharge Smart 7.4kW EV Charging Pedestal with LCD Screen is a black standalone charger with one Type 2 socket and local display support. ROLEC2511B is the single-phase, single-socket LCD variant in the BasicCharge range, providing up to 7.4kW at 32A from a 230V AC supply. It is intended for managed car parks, workplaces, residential developments and long-stay bays where the charger should be positioned at the parking space and give drivers clearer on-unit guidance. The Type 2 socket allows the use of a separate charging cable, and the pedestal format removes the need for a suitable wall close to the bay. Smart operation is available through plug and go, app and RFID access through compatible management systems. OCPP 1.6J support, MID compliant metering and PME fault detection support managed site operation. See related commercial EV chargers for multi-bay planning.

Why add an LCD at the bay

An LCD screen is useful where different drivers will use the charger and need clearer local guidance than status lighting alone. In a car park or residential development, users may not know the charging process before they arrive at the bay. A display helps the operator present instructions and status at the point of use, reducing reliance on separate printed guidance or user memory.

This variant should be selected when the site wants a display but not an integrated contactless payment terminal. That makes it relevant for staff, resident and controlled-access charging where payment is handled separately or not required. If the site needs walk-up card payment, the contactless payment variants should be considered instead. If payment and display guidance are both required, the combined LCD payment BasicCharge is the higher user-interface specification.

Standalone charging for one socketed bay

The pedestal layout makes the charger independent of a building wall. That is valuable for open parking areas, rows of bays and developments where the charger has to sit beside the vehicle space. A single Type 2 socket serves one bay and allows the driver to connect a suitable Type 2 cable. This keeps the pedestal free from a stored tethered lead when no vehicle is connected.

The single-socket 7.4kW format keeps the electrical load and bay design straightforward. It suits one marked EV space on a single-phase supply. Where two adjacent bays are required, ROLEC2521B provides two 7.4kW sockets. Where a three-phase 400V supply is available and vehicles can use higher AC charging, ROLEC2513B and ROLEC2523B provide the LCD screen arrangement in 22kW variants.

Managed access and metered reporting

BasicCharge Smart supports plug and go, app and RFID operation. RFID is useful for controlled sites where staff, residents or approved users should start sessions. App access gives the site a digital management route through the chosen platform. Plug and go can be used where the operator wants lower-friction access.

OCPP 1.6J support allows connection to compatible chargepoint management systems. Integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering supports accurate usage records for facilities teams, landlords and operators. Communications include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, RJ45 Ethernet, NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy for installer configuration. The charging circuit also supports dynamic load balancing and static load management, with additional hardware potentially required depending on site design.

Protection, lighting and mounting

Built-in protection includes a 40A 30mA Type A RCBO per socket, 6mA DC fault protection, surge protection, over temperature protection and PME fault detection. PME fault detection removes the need for a separate earth electrode for that function. External source protection, cable route, earthing and surge protection should still be confirmed before installation. Supporting devices can be selected from EV circuit protection.

The pedestal includes photocell controlled 360-degree LED amenity lighting, helping the unit stand out in lower-light parking conditions. It measures 205mm wide, 1130mm high and 205mm deep, with a 2mm Zintec steel body and textured polyester powder coating. The socket is rated IP54, impact protection is IK10, and operating temperature is specified from -30°C to +50°C. Surface or root mounting can be selected around the final bay layout.

Choosing BasicCharge LCD variants

ROLEC2511B is the 1 x 7.4kW single-phase BasicCharge pedestal with LCD screen. ROLEC2521B adds a second 7.4kW socket for two single-phase bays. ROLEC2513B is the single-socket 22kW three-phase LCD version, while ROLEC2523B provides two 22kW three-phase sockets. Supply type and bay count should drive the choice between these variants.

The standard ROLEC0511B smart pedestal removes the LCD screen. ROLEC1511B adds contactless payment without the LCD screen. ROLEC3511B combines the LCD screen and contactless payment terminal. Choose this LCD-only version where user instructions and local status are important, but contactless payment at the pedestal is not part of the project requirement.

BasicCharge LCD questions

Does ROLEC2511B include contactless payment?

No. This variant is the smart BasicCharge pedestal with LCD screen, but without the integrated contactless payment terminal. The combined LCD and contactless payment version is supplied under a separate SKU.

What output does this pedestal provide?

This SKU is the 1 x up to 7.4kW Type 2 socket version for a 230V AC single-phase supply. The 22kW LCD variants are separate three-phase models.

Can it be managed through OCPP?

Yes. The BasicCharge range supports OCPP 1.6J communications. That allows the charger to connect to a compatible chargepoint management system for site control and reporting.
