The Rolec Quantum Smart 7.4kW EV Charging Pedestal is a black standalone chargepoint with one Type 2 socket. ROLEC0411B is the single-phase, single-socket black Quantum variant, designed for car parks, workplaces, development sites and public locations where a floor-mounted charger is more suitable than a wall unit. It provides up to 7.4kW from a 230V AC supply and uses Mode 3 charging through a universal socket, allowing the driver to connect a suitable Type 2 cable. The smart model supports plug and go, app and RFID operation through a compatible OCPP chargepoint management system. Built-in PME fault detection, MID-approved metering, dynamic load balancing and static load management support practical commercial deployment. The Quantum pedestal also includes photocell-controlled LED amenity lighting and a 375mm by 1440mm by 275mm enclosure. View related project ranges under commercial EV chargers.

Why choose a Quantum pedestal

A Quantum pedestal is specified when the charging bay needs its own freestanding charger position. In open car parks, landscaped parking areas and development sites, a wall-mounted unit can force long cable routes or poor bay positioning. The pedestal format lets the designer place the chargepoint at the head or centre of the bay, subject to ducting, foundations and accessibility requirements.

The single-socket version is suited to one marked EV space. It keeps circuit demand and bay ownership simpler than a dual-socket unit, while still using the same Quantum platform and communications package. The socketed layout also avoids storing a fixed cable on the pedestal when no vehicle is connected. Drivers use their own Type 2 lead, so the installer should consider bay signage and user guidance where visitor charging is expected.

Smart access without extra interface hardware

This smart Quantum model supports plug and go, app and RFID operation. Plug and go keeps the charging process simple where access control is not required. RFID is useful for staff, residents or approved users, while app access gives the selected management platform a route for user control and session visibility. The model does not include an integrated contactless payment terminal or 5-inch LCD screen, which keeps the specification focused on managed access rather than walk-up payment.

OCPP 1.6 compliance allows connection to a compatible chargepoint management system. That matters for workplaces, private estates and residential developments where usage records, permissions and remote management need to sit in one system. Integrated MID-approved metering supports accurate consumption reporting, which is useful for billing, cost allocation and estate management. The communications package includes 4G, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, giving installers options where signal or data route differs by site.

Protection and load management checks

ROLEC0411B includes PME fault detection, so no earth rod is required for that PME protection function. Built-in protection also covers AC overload and fault current protection, 6mA DC fault protection, lightning surge protection and over temperature protection. Final source protection, cable route and surge protection still need to be confirmed by the installer for the specific site.

Dynamic load balancing and static load management are supported, which helps when EV charging must share a constrained supply with other building or car park loads. Load management should be planned early if further pedestals may be added later. The output can be selected within the available supply design, while the charger’s MID metering provides the operator with consumption data after installation. For associated circuit equipment, review EV circuit protection as part of the installation schedule.

Materials, lighting and bay visibility

The Quantum enclosure uses a 2.5mm 6063 extruded aluminium substructure with a 25 micron hard anodised protective finish. The panels are 3.2mm aluminium composite, with high impact resistant polycarbonate used for the lens, base, lid, collar and louvres. These construction details make the pedestal a more substantial car park product than a compact wall charger and help justify its use in exposed shared parking areas.

Photocell-controlled LED amenity lighting improves chargepoint visibility when light levels fall. The black finish on this SKU suits darker car park furniture, tarmac-heavy environments and sites where a low-contrast pedestal is preferred. Grey and white versions are available for the same single-socket 7.4kW format. Colour should be selected for site appearance and visibility requirements, while socket count and supply type should be selected from the electrical design.

Choosing between Quantum variants

ROLEC0411B is the black 1 x 7.4kW smart Quantum pedestal. ROLEC0411G and ROLEC0411W are the same single-socket 7.4kW format in grey and white. ROLEC0421B, ROLEC0421G and ROLEC0421W provide two 7.4kW sockets for two single-phase bays. The 22kW Quantum variants use a three-phase 400V AC supply and should only be specified where that supply is available and useful for the site.

The user interface also changes across the range. ROLEC1411B adds contactless payment to the single-socket black 7.4kW layout. ROLEC2411B adds the 5-inch LCD screen without contactless payment. ROLEC3411B combines the LCD screen with contactless payment. Choose this smart model where app, RFID or plug and go operation is enough, and where a separate payment terminal or screen is not part of the project requirement.

Quantum smart pedestal questions

Does ROLEC0411B need an earth rod?

No. The Quantum range includes PME fault detection with no earth rod required for that function. The installer still needs to assess source protection, earthing arrangement and surge protection for the final circuit.

Does this model include contactless payment?

No. This SKU is the smart Quantum pedestal without the integrated contactless payment terminal. Contactless payment versions are available under separate Quantum SKUs.

Which colour and socket layout is this SKU?

ROLEC0411B is the black, single-socket, up to 7.4kW Quantum Smart EV Charging Pedestal. Grey and white versions, dual-socket versions and 22kW three-phase versions are separate variants.
