Ideal for

  • Socketed Type 2 AC chargepoints
  • Vehicles with Type 2 IEC 62196 inlets
  • Close parking bays needing a 5m cable
  • 16A 3.6kW Type 2 charging setups
  • Buyers comparing 16A and 32A cable variants

Works well with

  • EVCC0051 5m 32A 7.4kW premium cable
  • EVCC0053 5m 32A 22kW three-phase cable
  • EVCC0101 10m 32A 7.4kW premium cable
  • EVCC0103 10m 32A 22kW three-phase cable
  • Optional EVPP0320 plug-to-plug cable carry bag

The Rolec Type 2 to Type 2 EV Charging Cable is a 5m 16A Mode 3 lead for socketed Type 2 AC charging.

EVPP0080 is listed in the Rolec Mode 3 EV Charging Cables data sheet as a 5m, 16A, 3.6kW IEC 62196 Type 2 to IEC 62196 Type 2 charging cable. It is used where both the chargepoint socket and the vehicle inlet are Type 2. That makes it the relevant cable family for many socketed AC charger installations, including home, workplace and destination charging where the driver supplies the lead. The cable is a plug-to-plug lead, not a tethered charger component. Rolec lists IP54 rating, 10,000 mating cycles, cable strain relief and impact resistant run-over proof construction for the Mode 3 cable range. Current premium Type 2 variants are also verified in Rolec’s premium cable data sheet, covering 32A 7.4kW and 22kW versions in 5m and 10m lengths. See EV cabling for related installation products.

Where a Type 2 to Type 2 lead fits

A Type 2 to Type 2 lead is used with a socketed Type 2 AC chargepoint and a vehicle with a Type 2 inlet. It is the normal cable route for socketed charging because the charger does not have a fixed tethered lead. The driver connects the cable for the session and removes it when charging is finished.

This format is useful where a household, workplace or visitor bay wants cable choice rather than a permanent lead on the charger. The cable length and rating should be selected from the parking layout, the vehicle’s AC charging capability and the chargepoint output. A longer or higher-rated cable should be chosen only where it adds real installation value.

Why choose the 5m 16A version?

The 5m 16A version suits lower-current Type 2 charging where the charger and vehicle are close enough for a short lead. The 3.6kW rating is verified for EVPP0080 in the Rolec Mode 3 cable data sheet. It is not the right selection where the buyer expects 7.4kW or 22kW charging from the cable.

For higher-rated charging, the current premium Type 2 cable data sheet lists EVCC0051 as 5m 32A 7.4kW, EVCC0053 as 5m 32A 22kW three-phase, EVCC0101 as 10m 32A 7.4kW, and EVCC0103 as 10m 32A 22kW three-phase. Those variants change the cable length, current rating and phase capability.

Handling, rating and storage checks

The cable should be stored so the connectors are protected and the lead is not left across a walking route. Rolec’s Mode 3 cable data sheet lists cable strain relief and run-over proof construction, but good site practice still matters. A cable lying in the wrong place can create avoidable handling and trip issues.

The premium Type 2 cable data sheet lists IP65 and IK10 ratings for the premium cable range, with caps fitted or when mated for ingress protection. It also lists black colour, copper cores, silver plated terminals and 2-year warranty for those premium models. Those details should not be copied onto EVPP0080 unless the exact variant is being supplied from the premium range.

Choosing Type 2 cable variants

EVPP0080 is the 5m, 16A, 3.6kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable in the older Mode 3 cable data sheet. EVCC0051 is the 5m 32A 7.4kW premium Type 2 cable, while EVCC0101 is the 10m 32A 7.4kW version. EVCC0053 and EVCC0103 are the 22kW three-phase premium versions in 5m and 10m lengths.

Choose the 16A cable only where that rating suits the vehicle and charging point. Choose a 32A single-phase cable where 7.4kW AC charging is required and supported. Choose a 22kW three-phase cable only where the chargepoint, supply and vehicle can use three-phase AC charging.

Type 2 cable questions

What is EVPP0080 rated at?

EVPP0080 is listed as a 5m, 16A, 3.6kW Type 2 to Type 2 Mode 3 charging cable. It uses IEC 62196 Type 2 connections at both ends.

Which variant is the 22kW cable?

The Rolec premium cable data sheet lists EVCC0053 as the 5m 32A 22kW three-phase Type 2 cable and EVCC0103 as the 10m 32A 22kW three-phase Type 2 cable. The vehicle and chargepoint must support three-phase AC charging to use that rating.

What warranty applies to EV charging cables?

Rolec warranty terms list EV charging cable warranty as 24 months. The premium Type 2 cable data sheet also lists a 2-year warranty for the premium cable range.
