The Rolec WallPod Smart 7.4kW 10m Tethered EV Charger is a grey single-phase chargepoint with one long fixed Type 2 lead. ROLEC4145G provides up to 7.4kW at 32A from a 230V AC supply and is designed for installations where the charger cannot be mounted close to the vehicle inlet. The 10m lead is the main buying difference from the 5m tethered WallPod, giving more reach across wider driveways, offset garage walls and bays where vehicles may park in different orientations. It keeps the cable permanently available at the charger, while avoiding the separate cable handling required by socketed models. Smart operation is available through plug and charge, mobile app or RFID. OCPP 1.6J support allows integration with compatible management systems, and integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering supports accurate energy reporting. For cable route planning, see related EV cabling options.

When the 10m WallPod lead is worth specifying

The 10m tethered WallPod is a layout-led product. It should be chosen when the charger position and the vehicle inlet cannot be kept close enough for a 5m lead. That situation is common where the incoming supply is on the wrong side of a driveway, where the customer alternates between nose-in and reverse parking, or where a workplace bay has to serve different vehicles with different inlet positions. The extra cable length can prevent the installer from mounting the charger in a poor electrical or visual position simply to reach the car.

Longer reach also brings responsibility. A 10m tethered lead must be stored carefully so that the cable does not sit across a walkway or vehicle route when not in use. The tethered WallPod includes the Type 2 charge gun holster, but the installer still needs to plan cable sweep, parking position and user handling. Where the vehicle always parks close to the unit, the 5m model is neater. Where reach is the main issue, the 10m model protects the usability of the finished installation.

Smart operation for homes and workplaces

WallPod Smart can be operated through plug and charge, mobile app control or RFID access. This gives a private homeowner a simple route for day-to-day charging, while allowing a landlord, small business or facilities manager to restrict use when the unit is in a shared area. The configurable RGB LED status halo provides local feedback at the charger, so users can see the charging state without first opening an app.

OCPP 1.6J support gives the charger a route into compatible back-office platforms. That is important where sessions need to be recorded, users need to be assigned, or energy use needs to be reported for a workplace or residential development. Integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering supports accurate reporting of consumption. Communications are covered by 4G LTE, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and RJ45 Ethernet, which lets the installer choose the most practical connection method for the site. Bluetooth Low Energy is included for installer configuration.

Protection, metering and circuit design

PME fault detection is built into the WallPod Smart platform, removing the need for a separate earth electrode for that function. The charger also includes over current protection, 6mA DC fault protection, lightning surge protection and over temperature protection. A dedicated 30mA Type A RCBO or equivalent protection is required at source, so the protective device arrangement still needs to be designed for the final cable route and installation method.

Dynamic load balancing is supported, with the CT clamp and cable included. That matters on single-phase supplies where the available capacity must be shared with the rest of the property. Static load management can also be configured in software where a fixed limit is required. The built-in MID compliant meter supports reporting for work charging, landlord-managed bays or private users who need accurate session records. For supporting protective devices, see EV circuit protection.

Grey finish and outdoor housing

The enclosure measures 179mm wide, 367mm high and 142mm deep. It uses high impact resistant polycarbonate, with an IP65 enclosure rating and IK10 impact protection. The socket rating is IP54, and the unit operates across a specified -30°C to +50°C temperature range. These figures give installers the key physical and environmental checks needed before wall or post mounting.

Grey is a useful finish for utility walls, garages, rendered elevations and commercial exteriors. It reduces contrast compared with a black unit and can be less visually stark than white on darker or mixed surfaces. The finish does not change the rating, connector or smart controls. ROLEC4145G is the grey 10m tethered unit, while ROLEC4145W and ROLEC4145B cover white and black versions. The colour decision should follow the site finish and customer preference, while the 10m lead decision should follow the measured bay layout.

Choosing between WallPod reach and format

ROLEC4145G gives the longest tethered reach in the listed grey WallPod Smart set. ROLEC4140G is the shorter 5m tethered grey version and is tidier where the vehicle parks close to the charger. ROLEC4020G changes the format to a Type 2 socket, which allows the driver to supply a suitable cable. White and black versions exist for each of those formats, but the electrical rating remains up to 7.4kW on a single-phase supply.

The practical decision is cable handling. Choose 10m tethered when the unit must reach across a larger or less predictable parking area. Choose 5m tethered when the mounting position is close and cable storage should be kept compact. Choose socketed where the site wants cable choice, a cleaner wall appearance or shared use between drivers carrying their own leads. WallPod 10m tethered questions

Does ROLEC4145G include a 10m cable?

Yes. This variant is the grey WallPod Smart unit with a 10m Type 2 tethered lead. The cable is fixed to the charger and a Type 2 charge gun holster is included with tethered units.

Is the 10m version more powerful than the 5m version?

No. The 10m lead changes reach, not output. ROLEC4145G is still a 7.4kW single-phase charger rated at 32A from a 230V AC supply.

Can this WallPod be managed through OCPP?

Yes. WallPod Smart supports OCPP 1.6J. That allows connection to a compatible chargepoint management system where site control or reporting is required.
