The Rolec Zura Smart 7.4kW 10m Tethered EV Charger is a black single-phase chargepoint with one extended Type 2 lead. ROLEC3145B is designed for sites where the charger has to sit further from the vehicle inlet, while still using a fixed cable for daily convenience. It delivers up to 7.4kW at 32A from a single-phase 230V AC supply and uses Mode 3 charging with a Type 2 IEC 62196 tethered connection. The 10m lead is the defining feature, giving more reach across larger driveways, offset wall positions and parking bays where the inlet location changes by vehicle. Smart control can be handled by plug and charge, mobile app or RFID, with OCPP 1.6J support for managed networks. The unit also includes TruePEN PME fault detection, MID compliant metering and IP65 enclosure protection. View related installation products through EV cabling.

When the 10m Zura lead solves the layout

The 10m tethered Zura is a layout-led choice. It helps where the incoming supply, wall surface or parking bay position prevents the charger from being mounted close to the vehicle inlet. A longer fixed lead can avoid running an EV charging cable across a narrow walkway from the vehicle’s own cable, because the cable is already part of the chargepoint and can be returned to its holster after use. For installers, it can also widen the acceptable mounting area when the neatest cable route does not align with the vehicle’s usual charge port.

A longer cable is not automatically better. It requires more attention to storage, lead sweep and user handling. Where the car always parks close to the charger, the 5m model is tidier and easier to manage. Where multiple parking orientations or vehicle lengths are likely, the 10m model gives practical headroom. The buying decision should be made from a measured parking layout, not from the charger rating alone.

Smart control for shared or private use

Rolec Zura can operate through plug and charge, mobile app or RFID. That makes the same hardware suitable for a private driveway or a small shared charging site. A homeowner can keep the process straightforward with plug and charge, while a landlord, employer or facilities manager can use RFID access to reduce unauthorised sessions. Mobile app control adds another operating route for users who prefer digital access and session visibility.

OCPP 1.6J support gives the charger a route into compatible chargepoint management systems. That is useful where a site needs reporting, access control, tariffs or network-wide monitoring. Integrated Class 1 MID compliant metering supports accurate energy consumption reporting, which becomes important in residential car parks, managed workplaces and any setting where EV energy is not simply absorbed as a private household load. The configurable RGB LED halo gives visible local status at the charger.

Electrical protection and supply planning

TruePEN PME fault detection is built in, so no separate earth electrode is required for that PME protection function. The protection package also covers DC fault protection at 6mA, over current protection, lightning surge protection and over temperature protection. Source protection remains part of the installation design, and the data sheet states that a dedicated 30mA Type A RCBO or equivalent protection is required at source.

Automatic dynamic load balancing is supported on the single-phase Zura models, with CT clamp and cable included. That helps when the charger is installed on a supply where the maximum import capacity needs to be protected from overload. Static load management is software configurable, giving another option where a fixed current limit is required. The charger supports 4G LTE, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and RJ45 Ethernet, so network choice can be considered alongside the electrical route. Bluetooth Low Energy is included for installer configuration purposes.

Outdoor build, mounting and lead storage

The Zura enclosure is IP65 rated, while impact protection is IK10. Operating temperature is specified from -30°C to +50°C, with operating humidity from 5% to 95%. The unit and fascia are high impact resistant polycarbonate, supported by a steel mounting back plate and stainless steel rear bracket plate. Those details give installers confidence when specifying the unit for exposed walls or post-mounted outdoor bays.

Lead storage must be planned carefully on a 10m tethered installation. The Type 2 charge gun holster is included, but the installer still needs to position the charger where the cable can be returned safely after use. On a driveway, this may mean placing the unit where the lead does not cross the main walking line. On a workplace bay, the mounting position should avoid creating a trip route between parked vehicles. A 10m lead gives valuable reach, but it should be treated as part of the site layout rather than just a product feature.

Choosing between Zura cable lengths

ROLEC3145B provides one 10m Type 2 tethered lead. ROLEC3155B is the dual 10m tethered version, rated up to 7.4kW per tethered lead on a 63A single-phase supply. ROLEC3140B is the single 5m tethered version for closer mounting, while ROLEC3150B doubles the 5m lead count. The socketed variants, ROLEC3020B and ROLEC3030B, suit sites that want users to bring their own Type 2 cable rather than using a fixed lead.

Three-phase Zura variants provide up to 22kW where the site has the right supply. Those models are not a direct replacement for a single-phase 7.4kW domestic unit. In a typical single-phase installation, the useful decision is format and reach: socketed for cable choice, 5m tethered for a close bay, or 10m tethered where vehicle position and wall location need more tolerance. For many awkward driveways, the 10m model is the variant that avoids a compromised mounting position.

Zura 10m tethered questions

Does ROLEC3145B need a separate charging cable?

No. This variant includes a fixed 10m Type 2 tethered lead. A Type 2 charge gun holster is included with tethered Zura units for storing the connector.

Is the 10m Zura still a 7.4kW charger?

Yes. The longer tethered lead changes reach, not the output rating. The unit is specified for up to 7.4kW at 32A from a single-phase 230V AC supply.

Can the charger support solar or battery integration?

The Zura range supports solar PV, battery storage or wind turbine integration as an app dependent feature. Site design and app compatibility should be confirmed before promising that function to the end user.
