The Home Pro family page and the standard 5m choice

The Home Pro combines a permanently attached Type 2 charging lead with an LCD screen and Ohme's app-based smart charging. The 5m model is the natural starting point for the range: it suits driveways, garages and allocated bays where the vehicle normally stops close to the charger in the same orientation.

Before ordering, park the vehicle as it will normally sit and measure the usable cable route from the proposed charger position to the inlet. Follow the route around the vehicle rather than measuring a straight line, and allow for the wall-mounting height, corners and enough slack to avoid strain on the connector.

If 5m is comfortably sufficient, this version keeps the stored cable more compact. If the inlet is regularly on the far side, the charger must sit on a side wall, or the parking position changes, compare the Ohme Home Pro 8m.

Screen, app and mobile connectivity

Charging can be controlled from the Home Pro's front controls or the Ohme app, with status information shown on the LCD screen and three-colour LED indication. The charger connects automatically through its 3G/4G multi-network SIM, so online smart functions do not require a home Wi-Fi connection. Mobile reception at the proposed mounting position should still be checked.

Ohme states that it covers the connectivity cost for the first three years. The charger also supports over-the-air firmware and software updates.

Dynamic load management and Solar Boost

A CT clamp is included with the Home Pro. When correctly positioned, wired and commissioned, it supports dynamic load management and Solar Boost. These functions depend on the property, CT installation, available generation and account configuration; the page does not promise a particular saving or charging result.

The Ohme app supports charging schedules and energy-provider integration. Compatibility can change, so check the current tariff in the Ohme app or with the energy provider rather than relying on a static list of tariff names.

What the installer must provide

The Home Pro is rated at up to 7.4kW and 32A on a 230V AC single-phase supply. Supply entry can be through the rear or underside, with conductors up to 6mm²; a 25mm gland and blanking grommet are provided.

Overcurrent protection is not fitted inside the charger and must be provided separately. The installer is responsible for the circuit design and protective-device selection. The Home Pro includes integral 6mA DC detection and built-in PEN fault protection and is specified with Type A 30mA RCD protection.

The 170 x 200 x 100mm enclosure is suitable for indoor or outdoor wall or post mounting. It is rated IP55 for ingress protection and IK08 for impact resistance, with a stated operating range of -25°C to 45°C.

Home Pro or ePod?

Choose Home Pro when you want a fixed charging lead, an LCD screen and controls on the charger. Choose the Ohme ePod when you prefer a smaller screen-free unit with an untethered Type 2 socket and a removable cable.

Everyday use with a fixed 5m lead

A tethered charger keeps the vehicle lead at the wall unit, so there is no separate cable to take from the boot for a normal charging session. That is convenient where the same vehicle returns to the same bay each day. The trade-off is that cable reach is fixed: a 5m lead works best when the charger position and vehicle inlet have been checked before installation rather than assumed from a straight-line measurement.

Plan where the cable will sit when the car is away as well as how it reaches when the car is charging. The route should avoid connector strain and an unsuitable trip point, and the wall position should leave practical access to the LCD screen and front controls. If more than one vehicle uses the space, measure to each inlet and parking orientation. The Home Pro charges one connected vehicle at a time, and the 8m sibling may be more suitable if the 5m route is marginal.

Scheduling, load and solar in practice

The Home Pro gives users a choice between the app and controls on the charger. Schedules can be set around the required charge and departure time, while supported energy-provider integration can help organise charging around a current tariff. Named tariffs are not fixed product features, so compatibility should be checked when the account is configured.

Dynamic load management and Solar Boost rely on the included CT clamp being positioned, wired and commissioned correctly. Household demand and available solar generation vary throughout the day and across the seasons. These functions help the installation respond to those conditions, but they do not guarantee a particular saving, charge time or amount of solar energy delivered to the vehicle.
