The Sync Energy CFEV5RDA-01 is a grey IP65 EV consumer unit with 100A main switch, 40A double-pole RCBO and Type 2 SPD. Built for dedicated EV charger supplies, it suits installers who want a populated 5 module enclosure rather than selecting the devices separately on site. The grey cast aluminium housing is surface mounted and rated IP65, making it suitable for charger positions where weather resistance and a tidy external wiring route matter. The protection layout gives the board incoming isolation through the 100A main switch, final-circuit protection through the 40A 30mA Type A double-pole RCBO and surge protection through the Type 2 SPD. The enclosure is supplied with the fitted devices, DIN rail, neutral cable, neutral and earth terminals, labels, busbar and cover blanks.

Why choose the RCBO protection layout?

The RCBO layout is useful where the charger circuit needs combined overload and residual-current protection on the outgoing way. A 40A 30mA Type A double-pole RCBO is already fitted, so the installer is not building the board from an empty enclosure. The incoming 100A main switch keeps local isolation separate from the final circuit protective device.

The Type 2 SPD adds surge protection within the same 5 module board. That matters on EV charger installations because the vehicle charge point is often outside the building envelope, with cable routes that need careful protection and isolation planning. The product is intended for use when the EV charger supply cable does not have mechanical protection.

Grey IP65 enclosure for charger supplies

The grey enclosure is made from cast aluminium and has an IP65 rating. It is surface mounted, with a padlock facility and backed-out retained terminal screws. Those practical details support repeatable installation because cable entry, device access and closure can be planned before the board reaches site.

There are 11 knockouts in total, with entries across the sides, top and base. BG lists the entry detail as M20 to M32 positions, with three top entries, two side entries and one base entry stated in the product specification. The board has four wall fixing positions and uses combi terminal screws.

CFEV5RDA-01 compared with CFEV5A-01

CFEV5RDA-01 uses a 100A main switch plus a 40A 30mA Type A double-pole RCBO and Type 2 SPD. CFEV5A-01 is the grey sibling with a 40A 30mA Type A RCD, 40A MCB and Type 2 SPD. The practical difference is the protective device arrangement, not the enclosure size or IP rating.
