Ideal for

  • Single-phase homes needing 7.4kW EV charging
  • Driveways where a 5m tethered lead reaches comfortably
  • Darker brick, black garage doors or charcoal exterior details
  • Solar PV homes using Eco or Super Eco charging modes
  • Drivers using Intelligent Octopus Go or OVO Charge Anytime

Works well with

  • Intelligent Octopus Go through Hypervolt integration
  • OVO Charge Anytime with Hypervolt Home 3 Pro
  • Solar PV systems monitored through CT input
  • Type A double-pole external AC protection
  • EV-Ultra or Cat5e CT extension runs

The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro HV3PROAAUB050T2 is a 7.4kW single-phase tethered EV charger with a 5m Type 2 cable in Ultra Black. It is the shorter-cable Ultra Black variant, suited to driveways where the car parks close to the charger and the customer wants a fixed plug ready on the wall. Ultra Black is useful on dark brick, black garage doors, timber cladding and contemporary exterior fittings, while the 5m cable keeps the cable coil smaller than the 7.5m and 10m variants. The charger provides app control, scheduling, lock mode, solar charging modes and Automatic Load Management. Protection includes integrated PEN fault protection and internal 6mA DC RCD-DD, with external AC protection still required. For adjacent buying choices, place it within home EV chargers and Hypervolt.

  • 7.4kW AC output on a 230V single-phase supply
  • 32A maximum rated current
  • Tethered IEC 62196 Type 2 connection
  • 5m Type 2 cable length for close parking
  • Ultra Black colour, with Space Grey and Ultra White siblings
  • Wi-Fi 2.4GHz, Bluetooth LE 4.2 and optional Ethernet
  • Boost, Eco and Super Eco charging modes
  • Automatic Load Management using CT information
  • Internal 6mA DC RCD-DD and integrated PEN fault protection
  • IP66 ingress protection and IK10 impact protection

Why choose Ultra Black with a 5m lead?

The Ultra Black 5m model is the neatest dark-finish option in the Home 3 Pro range. It suits installations where the vehicle inlet sits close to the charger and the customer does not need spare cable across the drive. The shorter lead is easier to wind back onto the unit after charging and helps keep the wall area cleaner between sessions.

Colour is a genuine buying factor for domestic EV chargers because the unit often sits on the front or side elevation of the property. Ultra Black can blend well with dark doors, black downpipes, charcoal cladding and darker brickwork. Where the wall is pale or grey, a Space Grey or Ultra White sibling may give a better visual match without changing the charging specification.

App charging, solar modes and tariffs

The Hypervolt app provides control over charging sessions, scheduling, lock function, LED brightness and charger modes. Scheduled charging is useful for customers who want the vehicle to charge overnight or inside a preferred time window. Plug and charge is also listed for the Home 3 Pro, giving drivers a simpler routine when no schedule restriction is needed.

Solar-focused homes can use the Home 3 Pro’s Boost, Eco and Super Eco modes. Eco is the solar-and-grid mode, while Super Eco is the solar-only mode listed in the technical specification. That makes this charger relevant where the homeowner already has PV generation or is comparing future solar options alongside EV charging.

Tariff compatibility can be a deciding factor for running costs. Octopus provides a Hypervolt connection process for Intelligent Octopus Go, and OVO lists the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro as compatible with Charge Anytime. For customer education, link from the product page to EV tariff information and the LAMPS Intelligent Octopus Go charger guide.

Installer protection requirements

For HV3PROAAUB050T2, the technical specification lists internal 6mA DC RCD-DD and integrated PEN fault protection. External AC protection is required, with Hypervolt recommending Type A double-pole overcurrent protection using a B or C curve 40A device. The final selection must reflect the property supply, installation method, cable size and voltage drop calculation.

The integrated PEN fault protection allows the charger to be connected to a PME service without an additional earth rod, when installed correctly. Hypervolt’s guide states that the charger isolates all conductors if the protective earth and neutral conductor becomes damaged or disconnected. This is a significant installer benefit on properties where an earth rod would be impractical or visually intrusive.

The Home 3 Pro supports Automatic Load Management through CT input. A CT clamp is fitted at the service origin for general use, measuring the main property load and solar export. When activated, ALM reduces the current available to the EV to prevent the charge point from overloading the property’s electrical service. Supporting products can be reviewed in EV cabling and EV circuit protection.

Connectivity and commissioning notes

The charger supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE 4.2, with an RJ45 port for optional Ethernet. A hardwired data connection should be considered where Wi-Fi signal is weak at the chosen mounting location. This can be useful on external walls, detached garages and long properties where the router is far from the driveway.

Hypervolt’s installation guide describes separate requirements for the electrical supply and CT information. CT wiring can be extended using Cat5e, HyperConnect or EV-Ultra cable depending on distance. Power and data cable entry can be planned through the rear or underside of the unit, and all holes must be sealed to maintain the IP rating.

The installer app supports adoption, network setup, automated tests and handover to the customer. The guide states that the unit must be registered as installed within 48 hours to validate the warranty. This should be completed before leaving site because failure to register within that period voids the warranty.

Choosing between black cable lengths

The Ultra Black range gives three practical cable choices. Choose this 5m Ultra Black Home 3 Pro for close parking and minimum spare cable. Choose the 7.5m Ultra Black Home 3 Pro for more reach across a driveway. Choose the 10m Ultra Black Home 3 Pro where the charger must serve a longer bay or a second parking position.

The matching 5m variants in other colours serve different exterior finishes. The 5m Space Grey Home 3 Pro is less stark on mid-tone walls, while the 5m Ultra White Home 3 Pro suits pale render and white detailing. Cable length and colour should be chosen together during survey.

Ultra Black 5m questions buyers ask
