What the untethered black Zappi is

The myenergi Zappi Smart EV Charger 7kW/22kW Untethered Type 2 Black is the socketed Zappi configuration for buyers who want solar-aware charging without a permanently attached charging lead. myenergi’s official product pages confirm that Zappi can be specified in both tethered and untethered forms and is available in different colour choices, including black. On untethered versions, the charger uses a Type 2 socket with locking system, which is confirmed in myenergi’s datasheet.

That makes it a particularly good fit for users who prefer a tidier wall-mounted look when the charger is not in use or who want the freedom to choose their own cable length and storage arrangement.

Who it suits

This model suits homeowners with solar PV, homes on time-of-use tariffs, design-conscious buyers who prefer an untethered charger, and sites that may be single phase today but could also be specified in a three-phase context elsewhere. It is also relevant for workplaces and business premises that want a myenergi charger with the broader 7kW/22kW Zappi platform behind it.

myenergi positions Zappi as a charger that can bring together microgeneration, battery storage and time-of-use tariffs. That makes it especially attractive where EV charging is being treated as part of a wider home energy strategy rather than as a stand-alone appliance.

Verified charging modes and renewable logic

One of Zappi’s biggest differentiators is its charging logic. myenergi’s official datasheets confirm three charging modes: ECO, ECO+ and FAST. Those modes are central to the product’s appeal. They let the charger behave differently depending on whether the priority is renewable self-consumption, reduced grid reliance or maximum charging speed.

Zappi’s wider official product content also highlights that it works with solar PV or wind turbine systems. For the user, that is not a vague marketing claim. It is the core reason many buyers choose Zappi rather than a more ordinary smart charger. It is built to help use self-generated energy more intelligently.

7kW and 22kW platform flexibility

myenergi’s product content confirms that Zappi supports 7kW and 22kW applications, with the 7kW mode aligned to single-phase supply and the 22kW mode aligned to three-phase supply. myenergi also states that the enhanced 22kW units now support both applications, simplifying selection for installers and wholesalers.

That platform flexibility matters because it gives the product broader relevance across domestic and light commercial settings. Most UK homes will use Zappi as a 7kW single-phase charger, but the same platform can also fit three-phase contexts where faster charging is wanted and the electrical supply supports it.

Untethered Type 2 practicality

The official myenergi datasheet confirms that untethered Zappi models use a Type 2 socket with locking system. For many buyers, this is the deciding factor. An untethered charger keeps the wall tidier, allows a separate cable to be stored away when not in use and can look cleaner on higher-end driveways or contemporary façades.

It also adds flexibility if the owner later changes vehicle or parking arrangement. Because the charger is not tied to one fixed lead, the user can choose the cable that best suits daily use.

Connectivity, installation and built-in protection

myenergi’s published data confirms Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, supporting the wider myenergi app ecosystem and smart charger control. The same datasheet confirms indoor or outdoor permanent mounting and integral 6mA DC residual current protection in accordance with EN 62955. Those are important details because they affect both installation practicality and day-to-day reliability.

In simple terms, this is a charger designed to be properly integrated into the property rather than treated as a temporary charging accessory. It is built for fixed installation and frequent use.

Why this variant may be the right choice

The untethered black Zappi is the right choice when a site wants the most recognisable myenergi features in a neater socketed format. Buyers get solar-aware charging modes, tariff-friendly scheduling, 7kW/22kW platform flexibility and a darker finish that suits many modern driveways and external walls. It is especially attractive where the look of the charger matters as much as the underlying charging logic.

It also works well in homes that already have solar or are likely to add more smart energy hardware later. myenergi explicitly presents Zappi as part of a broader home energy ecosystem, which is one of the reasons it remains such a popular specification choice.

"Ordered a Hypervolt charger, power cable and a fuse box. Waited a week to be told that both the cable and fuse box were out of stock. They upgraded the cable from 4mm to 6mm at no extra cost as the 6mm was in stock, however the cable supplied was Prysmian rather than the Doncaster Cables EV Ultra that was actually advertised on the website. The fuse box I found cheaper elsewhere so they cancelled and refunded that part of the order. Easy and helpful to deal with but could be better on the communication and keeping the stock situation up to date on the website."

"I ordered the Ohme Home Pro 5m Smart EV Charger from Evergy as they offered the best price online. From the initial order to the product arriving (within a few days) it was effortless. Thank you."
