Ideal for

  • Single-phase homes requiring socketed 7.4kW charging
  • Households wanting removable cable storage
  • Drivers selecting cable length around the parking position
  • Front-of-house installations needing a compact wall unit

Works well with

  • Suitable Type 2 wall-side charging cables
  • The supplied single-phase CT clamp
  • Installer-selected 40A Type B MCB protection
  • Ohme app tariff scheduling and Solar Boost

The Ohme ePod OHMEX1GB003-BL is a black 7.4kW untethered EV charger for a 230V AC, 50Hz single-phase supply, with a Type 2 socket and an IP54 enclosure. It suits domestic buyers who prefer to select and store a separate charging cable rather than leave a fixed lead attached to the wall. At 230mm x 140mm x 100mm and 1.5kg, it is the smaller socketed model in the Ohme home charger range.

  • 7.4kW maximum output with a 32A rated current
  • 230V AC, 50Hz single-phase incoming supply
  • Mode 3 Type 2 socket to IEC 62196 with cable selected separately
  • Ohme app, three unit buttons, five-colour LED strip and multi-network mobile connectivity
  • 30mA Type A residual-current characteristic with 6mA DC and PEN fault detection
  • 230mm high x 140mm wide x 100mm deep, 1.5kg, black finish
  • IP54, IK08, UKCA marked and UK Smart Charging Regulations compliant

How is charging controlled without a screen?

The ePod uses the Ohme app for detailed routines, tariff settings, charging history and energy monitoring. Three buttons provide local control, while the LED indication strip uses green, blue, yellow, white and purple states to communicate charger activity.

Energy tariff integration can schedule charging around selected off-peak periods. Solar Boost and dynamic load balancing are also available when the necessary CT arrangement has been installed and commissioned. A working mobile connection is needed for remote control, schedules and software updates.

What cable does the ePod require?

The socket conforms to the Type 2 connection format in IEC 62196. A charging cable is not permanently attached, so the customer must select a suitable cable for the vehicle and parking layout. A Type 2 vehicle normally uses a Type 2-to-Type 2 cable, while a compatible Type 1 vehicle requires a Type 2-to-Type 1 lead.

Ohme lists separate 5m and 8m cable options. The removable format allows a damaged cable or unsuitable length to be changed without replacing the charger, although the driver must connect and store the loose lead for each charging session. Related installation products can be reviewed in the EV cabling range.

What must be checked during installation?

The ePod incorporates an RCD-DD with a 30mA Type A characteristic and 6mA DC detection, together with PEN fault protection. Overcurrent protection is fitted separately. Ohme recommends a 40A Type B MCB and states that any upstream RCD must be at least Type A, 30mA.

One CT clamp, two Wago clips, a connector block and hardware fixings are included. Rear and underside entries are provided, with an M25 gland and blanking grommet. The current installation guide states that the main terminal block accepts conductors up to 10mm², while the CT inputs accept up to 1.6mm² and suitable data cable can be extended up to 60m.

Is a charging cable included with the ePod?

The ePod is sold as an untethered charger with a Type 2 socket. The vehicle cable must be selected separately in the required connector format and length.

Does OHMEX1GB003-BL include a CT clamp?

Yes. The current installation guide lists one CT clamp in the box, along with Wago clips, a connector block and hardware fixings. Correct installation and commissioning are required for dynamic load balancing.

Can the ePod be mounted outdoors?

Yes. It is listed for indoor or outdoor wall or post mounting and has IP54 ingress protection with an IK08 impact rating. The installer must maintain the enclosure seal and assess the exposure of the selected location.

What circuit protection does the ePod need?

Overcurrent protection is not fitted inside the unit. Ohme recommends a 40A Type B MCB and states that any upstream RCD must be at least Type A, 30mA, subject to the installer's final circuit design.
